Winter Skin Tips

Tips for keeping your skin healthy and glowing throughout the winter months.

  1. As always, wash your skin with a mild cleanser and tepid water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to get rid of any irritating residue.
  2. Always use a moisturizer in the morning and evening immediately after you cleanse. Your body repairs itself while you sleep, so using a richer, more nurturing cream at night is extremely beneficial.
  3. During the day, protect yourself against harmful UV rays, even when it’s cloudy and snowy. Dermatologists recommend wearing an SPF 30 every day. Ultraviolet rays can penetrate through the clouds, and incidental exposure can occur.
  4. If you are doing outdoor activities, a light SPF moisturizer may not be enough. You may need something with a more occlusive barrier to prevent chapping and windburn. A good option is a balm or thick protective moisturizer. A few great products are: Decleor Baume Essentiel, Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 30, and Dermalogica Super Rich Repair.
  5. In addition to drinking plenty of water, keep the air around you hydrated as well. Add some live plants to your living or office space. Houseplants detoxify the air and help keep it moist. A humidifier is also a simple solution. The more moisture in the air, the more hydrated your skin will be.
  6. Most importantly always remember to drink lots of water! It’s a common misconception that dehydration can only occur in the Summer months.
